Provincial Archives of Alberta presents Victory on the Field
September 25, 2013 – January 31, 2014
Discover how the First and Second World War influenced the institution of sport and recreation for so many Albertans during a time when sport and war collided. With the dynamic of athletic participation transformed, the level of public interest in sport dramatically increased. During this cultural shift, women’s sport experienced rapid growth and the military used sports on and off the battlefield as a method for physical training and recruitment. People turned to athletic competitions as a way to boost personal and public morale during a time of unease and conflict. The Alberta Legislature: More than Steel, Stone & Glass: 1912-2012
This exhibit celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the Alberta Legislature Building. Rising 176 feet into the prairie sky, the building is faced with granite and sandstone and the interior is finished with over two thousand tons of marble. The grand structure is a symbolic anchor for the province – a reminder of its past and a vision for its future.
