History

The cornerstone of Alberta's early gas and oil industry, the Turner Valley Gas Plant provides a look into the past of one of the British Empire's major petroleum suppliers.

1914 - 1923

In 1914, the Dingman #1 well near Turner Valley struck natural gas and naptha. This was the beginning of the modern era of petroleum production in Alberta.

1924 - 1947

Devastating fires, new petroleum discoveries and new market demands caused the Turner Valley Gas Plant to evolve through the 1920's and 1930's.

1947 - Today

The aging Turner Valley Gas Plant continued to operate until it was decommissioned in 1985.
