Partnerships
The Board Development Program is located within Alberta Culture and Community Spirit.
Since its inception, the Government of Alberta has provided the Program with its
core funding.
The Board Development Program has been able to deliver board governance training to thousands of boards over the past 25 years in large part because we have had the active support of a number of partners.
Volunteer Instructors
The key to our ability to deliver current and relevant training to not-for-profit boards is the corps
of Volunteer Instructors who actually conduct the workshops. At any point in time we have an
"unpaid staff" of approximately 65 volunteers.
Since the program began in 1983 we have trained over 500 instructors!
Grant MacEwan College
Staff from Grant MacEwan College has been a partner with the BDP since it was formed. Staff at the College assisted in the development of training materials as well as print resources. The College has co-copyright on the BDP's training materials.
Resource Centre for Voluntary Organizations
The Resource Centre for Voluntary Organizations
(RCVO), is a partner in regularly sponsoring Open Workshops and provides a retail outlet for our Board Development workbooks.
Volunteer Calgary
Volunteer Calgary has partnered with the Board Development Program in training activities and sponsoring Open Workshops in Calgary. In addition, the staff at Volunteer Calgary graciously make their offices available for the interview portion of our annual recruitment drive.
The Muttart Foundation
The generous support of the Muttart Foundation allowed the Board Development Program to grow in the mid-1990's. The expanded reach of the program means that any organization registered under the Societies or Libraries Acts is eligible for a BDP workshop. In addition, the support of the Muttart Foundation allowed the BDP to develop and print the
Board Development Workbooks.
