Board Development Program

Designed to build the governance skills of not-for-profit boards, this "hands on" workshop lets you apply new ideas immediately! You will also take away "tools" to implement an action plan.

Workshops are delivered by trained volunteers who bring their knowledge of and experience in board leadership to facilitate the session. Workshops are held at the dates and location of your choice. Except for booking a suitable facility and equipment, and providing refreshments, there are no costs to your organization.

BDP At A Glance

The Board Development Program is a unique service that provides assistance to not-for-profit boards in the area of governance through:

Workshops that are either customized to meet an individual board's needs, or delivered in a more generic format to representatives of numerous groups.

Consultations with board members seeking to clarify governance issues or looking for appropriate referrals to other resources.

Training of Volunteer Instructors to facilitate Board Development Program workshops and presentations in the area of board governance.

Resource Materials, both print and web-based, that focus on board governance issues of concern and relevance to not-for-profit boards.

Special Presentations to conferences, seminars and individual organizations focusing on topical issues related to board governance.

Community Collaborations between the Board Development Program and other organizations in the community which increase the accessibility of board development services to not-for-profit groups in Alberta.

  • Promoting and encouraging not-for-profit governance and offering a unique volunteer leadership opportunity for the volunteer instructors whom we train and use to facilitate our workshops.
