10 facts about government's review of community investment programs

  1. The Vitalize Provincial Voluntary Sector Conference will continue, with the 2009 event taking place June 4-6 at the TELUS Convention Centre in Calgary.
  2. The Board Development Program, which provides assistance to not-for-profit boards in the area of governance, will continue.
  3. Recognition of prominent volunteers, both individuals and corporations, will continue through the Corporate Volunteer Awards of Excellence and the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards.
  4. Funding for international aid projects sponsored by Alberta organizations will continue.
  5. Criteria for the Community Initiatives Program and the Community Facility Enhancement Program will be changed to ensure grants can be provided to small, community-based human service delivery organizations and to address operational funding.
  6. Staff dedicated to supporting the non-profit and voluntary sector through the Wild Rose Foundation will continue to provide these vital supports through Alberta Culture and Community Spirit. Employees who had been dedicated to the Wild Rose Foundation Quarterly Grant Program are being reassigned within the department of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit.
  7. The Minister of Culture and Community Spirit has committed to meeting with members of the Alberta Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Initiative (ANVSI) every six weeks to ensure there is a direct, ongoing line of communication.
  8. The Minister of Culture and Community Spirit is meeting every three months with the Ministers responsible for the Alberta Non-profit and Voluntary Sector Initiative (ANVSI) to discuss opportunities and challenges facing the sector and to examine programs and processes to ensure coordinated support.
  9. The Minister of Culture and Community Spirit is meeting with members of the Alberta Non-Profit Voluntary Sector Initiative on May 6 to review the strategy for moving forward together.
